Public Information Reports
Declining temperatures, inclining humidity, and increased precipitation have led to improving conditions, enabling the City of Enderby and Shuswap River Fire Protection District to lift the prohibition on Category 2 Open Burning and certain other activities, effective at noon on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
Subject to applicable local regulations, fireworks, sky lanterns, binary exploding targets, air curtain burners and burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description are permitted.
Category 3 open fires remain prohibited.
The prohibition on campfires, chimneas, and tiki torches was previously lifted effective August 28, 2024.
“Please ensure that a responsible person is in charge of a campfire at all times, that it is fully extinguished before leaving the area, that adequate water and a hand tool is kept nearby for fire suppression, and that a fuel break is created around the perimeter of the campfire that is free of combustibles,” advised Fire Chief Vetter.
This is consistent with the approach of the Kamloops Fire Centre, which regulates those areas not protected by a fire department.
